During the recent posting of small works, I've been 'slaving' away at the drawing board on new work for gallery events to come. This one, Seaside Royalty, is, as they say . . . hot off the drawing board and just completed. It is a bit over 7" x 11" and will head downstairs to the work table shortly for its frame. A little change up from the most recent works including humans, I think there will be several more, non-peopled works up next.

A million 'thanks' to those who purchased one of the small
works just offered this past week. I'm delighted that
most have found new homes and hope that the
purchasers will find many years of joy in them.
I will consider another offering like this later on this fall,
so if you missed out this round, check back then
for a new group of small, framed works at
a special reduced price.

This is the last work of the ten small, framed originals for this offering at $150 to the first person who contacts me for purchase. Pay Pal or a personal check are welcome. There are a couple of earlier posted works still available (not marked as SOLD) so if there is one that strikes you, let me know. I will honor the special reduced price for those still available through the end of July, which gives four more days to mull things over! As this little offering did rather well, I will consider doing it again later this fall with a new batch of small scale works. Meanwhile, it's back to the drawing board and some larger gallery works now.

(Posting at 11:30) As noted in the earlier posting, I did spend an hour cleaning things up this morning, doing a bit of darkening and further shading to move things fore and aft and here is the completed work, Ready for the Judging. Image size is 9" square.

Posting this shot at 3:30, here is yesterday's accumulated work on the current piece. I expect to put in a couple hours this afternoon and see if I can get within an hour or two of completing this work by dinner time. I expect it to be done tomorrow, if I don't return to it after dinner later this evening.
I'm delighted that the first of the little works sold so quickly! Tune in tomorrow to see what is next up on the 'auction' block!

I was reminded yesterday that an announcement, of those whose work will be included in next year's publication of the fifth edition of the Best of Drawing series from North Light Books, should be made public quite soon. I took a quick look on the web and much to my pleasure, surprise and great joy, even though the list of included artists for next year's book was not yet noted, as a featured work from this fall's arrival of the fourth edition, editor Sarah Laichas chose one of my works, The Waiting Game to be posted there! I am very honored to have work included in the fourth volume, which follows on the heels of having works included in the second and third editions, noted here in the column to the right, and have fingers crossed that I will once again have a work or two included in the selection for next year's volume. Leafing through the pages of the second and third volumes, I am always blown away by the wonderful works by such a host of fine artists from all across the globe. I can't wait to see who else is included in this fall's volume, to be available in October I believe.

I've finished the last of the small works that I will begin offering this coming week on my Facebook page as well as here on the blog page for $150 each, including shipping. So, now I've begun a larger work, actually a companion piece to the last completed work posted, Little Miss, Big Dreamer. I'm intending both of these to go to my Annapolis gallery once this one is done. I think they will make a very nice pairing for someone to consider taking home and hanging together.

Christmas In July
Here's a little 'Heads Up' regarding my offering of some more small scale, framed works as I did back in late April. These small works will be posted here and on my Facebook page, one a day, beginning in about a week's time. They will be available to the first person who contacts me for purchase at a very special reduced price that will, as before, include USPS Priority shipping to a continental US address. I will be accepting payment via Pay Pal or personal check and will be busy the next week or so, getting some new works off the drawing board so they can be framed and ready to go. Christmas in July will offer at least 10 works this time around so check back to see what I will be posting around the 15th or 16th.

Spent some time at the National Arboretum yesterday afternoon in Washington DC. To say it was hot would be an understatement. But, the material gathered for future work was worth the sweating! I knew about the fish as I've been there several times before, but the pleasant and unexpected surprise was this mallard with her ducklings. I foresee some fuzzy little ducks in my future!

Project Postcard
No, this is not some nightmarish vision of one of my recent works; no, this is not the result of spilled tea on the drawing board; no, this is not the result of what might come off the drawing board while I'm on muscle relaxers!
This is the first of a couple of special works that will be my contribution to this year's 'Project Postcard' for the Woodson Art Museum which will coincide with the opening weekend festivities of Birds in Art in September. This 'project' began two years ago as a way for the museum to raise funds to be able to purchase works for their permanent collection, selections being made from works included in that year's Birds in Art exhibition.
Over the last two years I believe the museum has been able to purchase seven or eight works for the collection through this unique idea.
Artists who are included in the year's exhibition are asked to donate a small, hand done work or two in a 4" x 6" format which are made available for purchase during the opening weekend events. During the first year I believe the museum received 90 small works and last year quite a bit more. Through the graciousness of the exhibiting artists, those attending the opening weekend gala on Friday evening have the opportunity to view the selections and rapidly make a purchase at a very nominal cash price. This year, the set price is $50 which will enable one to own a wonderful, small original work of art by some of the world's most respected artists and in so doing, will also go a long way to enabling the museum to add outstanding original works to their collection as well.
I will be sending in several works, this one having been distorted so as to keep its subject concealed and a surprise as no signatures are to appear on the face of the work so each viewer has no idea what artist has done a particular work till it is purchased and then they can turn it over and find the artist's signature on the back. It's a wonderful idea and I am quite pleased to be able to contribute to the fun and excitement of the opening events for this much anticipated annual, world respected exhibition.
So, if your plans can find you in Wausau, Wisconsin on Friday evening, September 7, you can have the opportunity to not only see some incredible art during the opening of Birds in Art, but to possibly be able to purchase and own a small, very special original work, done especially for this event, for your very own!
