Off to the FedEx office later this morning to ship these four works out to Windrush Gallery in Sedona, Arizona. As I've noted in an earlier posting, I am very pleased that my work will be represented in the southwest by this fine, well respected gallery. When visiting the beautiful Red Rock area of central Arizona, stop in to see some mighty fine art work and sculpture.

A Slow News Day?
It's the end of April, must be a slow news day as with the posting of this image, the drawing board seems to be clear for the moment, nothing in progress right now so . . . there are a couple of neighboring resident kitties who live within prowling distance of my back yard. Lately, this one in particular has been enjoying 'hanging out' near a line of, well for want of a better description . . . overgrown/needing to be thinned/weed infested undergrowth along my property line. It seems to enjoy 'stalking' and hunting for mice/chipmunks or whatever little creatures seem to catch its attention. It sits for hours on end, just concentrating on the greenery, waiting for some sign of movement to pounce. So far, I've not caught it with any captured prey, but it sure is persistent! Anyway, while waiting for a pot of water to boil for tea the other day, I stood at the back kitchen bay window and watched as the little guy/gal padded across my backyard and took up a nice, comfy laying spot beneath one of my rubber geese. It seemed so at home, the two 'buddies' just hanging out, relaxing and catching up on old news. So, who could resist taking a picture? On this slow news day, here is something to give you a chuckle.

This weekend, the Ward World Championship Art Festival will be held in Ocean City, Maryland. The Society of Animal Artists, of which I am a member, will host their first display of available works from some of its members at this year's show. I have two works included along with those of many other fine Society members, check out the listing of artists here. There is much to see at the show, now in its 42nd year, so check out more details here.
And, as a side note, as of ten past nine this morning, there remains only one of the eight small works that I have been posting for reduced price this past week, Quiet Reflection. If you'd like to add this work to your collection, contact me by the end of the day on Monday for the $150 reduced price, which includes USPS Priority shipping to a continental US address. Thanks again to all who have purchased one of these works.

The last of the small, spring clean up works, posted today. There are still several other earlier posted works available and as noted yesterday, I will honor the reduced price of $150 on each through next Monday, April 30th. That cost includes shipping to a continental US address via USPS Priority Mail. Pay Pal or a check are accepted. This little sale has been rather successful and I am most pleased that so many of the works have gone to new, welcoming homes so, I might just do this sort of clean up again in a few months time. Thanks to all who have purchased a work!

While I have been posting the small scale works this week, I've also been hard at work on this final piece to go to Windrush Gallery in Sedona shortly. It just came up (at 4:30 PM) from the work table and being framed, so I thought I would go ahead and post it today. I had a great time working on all that rock texture. And, I was pleased that this morning's small work posting was grabbed up rather quickly!

As our economy attempts to get back off the starting block, tough times continue for many cultural and art related institutions and venues. The arts are suffering . . . and we all can offer a supportive helping hand. Here is a link to today's posting on the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum's blog page that will give you a good way to show support for your favorite local cultural/art related venue. As noted in the posting, even a small purchase will go a long way in adding to the coffers of well deserving, soul enervating and energizing institutions of diverse cultural significance.
If every person who reads this would buy even a $25 item, imagine the impact this would have on the arts! We all know that there is strength in numbers so let us get to it and show economic strength in and for the arts!

As noted in the last posting, this work was finished up around 11:15 last night. The image is a bit over 7" x 13" and as noted earlier, will be the second of four new works to head out to Arizona later in the month to Windrush Gallery for the premiere showing of my works there. As I've noted many times before, texture is one of the keys in defining my work in graphite and this work holds a lot of texture!

Well, what do you know . . . I seem to be back in 'birdland'! This seventh work of the year brings me back to birds and some of my favorites, mourning doves. So, six out of seven works so far this year with birds in them. And to think, a decade and a half ago I was not the least bit interested in birds as a subject except for their obligatory appearance in a couple works each year for Birds in Art entries and then sometimes just distant flutters. Inspiration, its a strange and a marvelous thing! Maybe one more day on this one to complete it.

Something new is brewing in the studio. This will be another work that will head out to the southwest and my new gallery, Windrush in Sedona, later this month. I hope it will have sufficient southwest flare when completed.
Studio music today compliments of John Adams, his Violin Concerto playing as I type. Very conducive to work time.
