Someone once asked me, months and months ago, what my drawings look like before they become drawings. Better late than never, so here is a belated answer . . .


. . . this actually being the final line draft before transfer to the bristol board for the first pencil strokes. This is about the fourth incarnation of this idea, having begun with some little sketchy things, looking at positive and negative spaces and position of the subjects etc. Almost a square, this one will have some nice diagonal movement as well as some nice large negative spaces both light and dark. Watch and see what happens here.

(You will notice the little arrow at the top line . . . this tells me where the center vertical is within the square so I can continuously monitor my balance across that center line. I think this one is pretty well balanced)
