'I Hear You Singing In The Wire'

The completed work, image size just under 14" x 11". Now, I wonder if anyone can identify from whence the title has come?

A New Gallery

Spring is just around the corner so I thought it a good time to renew, refresh and revise. I have added a new gallery to the small group of venues that carry my work on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

Bendann Art Galleries, located in The Shops at Kenilworth in suburban Towson, Maryland just north of downtown Baltimore and a hop, skip and jump off of the Baltimore Beltway, now has a number of my recent works hanging. If you are in the metro Baltimore area, stop into the gallery to see what is new.

With our light, (a couple of inches) fresh, snowfall of Tuesday evening and yesterday, there was still a nice coating of the white stuff this morning to wake up to. So, before it all turned to mush and mud and muck, I decided to head out for an hour or so, photographing the beauty of my beloved Carroll County in late winter dress.

I had heard some months back, about a couple of bridges west of here that I might need to check out for the big bridge subject matter work load for next year's solo exhibition at the Woodson Museum ("Unknown Bridges") and while roaming the snow covered countryside not 20 minutes from my studio, I headed to the first of what turned out to be three very interesting bridges to get reference of.

And so in this last shot, I documented the fact that this artist was there (my car pulled over to the side of the road ahead) and then hiked down to river level and got some more useful material. It was quiet and peaceful and since these bridges were on relatively little used country roads, not even one single car drove by to break the utter silence as I photographed and studied and carefully edged my way around the slippery rocks and snow covered grasses at river level; the only sounds being my footfalls and the occassional drop of a snow pack from an overhead tree branch. It really was a nice way to spend a mid March morning!

'Two Brothers'

As the snow continues to fall here in central Maryland (can spring really be only a couple weeks away?), got an early start in the studio today so was able to finish up the current work, 'Two Brothers' (image size 8" x 11") which will be going to the Mystic Seaport Gallery at Mystic Seaport in Connecticut for the April opening of the show, Modern Marine Masters.

Moving right along . . . lots of black happening now.

Post number 3 of the current work. Ah, smell that salt air!

Sunday, March 04, 2007

Posting number two on the current work on the board.

Thanks to all who came out Friday evening for the opening reception. We had a nice turn out, interesting conversations and some nice sales. The show hangs through the beginning of April so if on the eastern shore of Maryland anytime in the next few weeks, stop into Troika Gallery on South Harrison Street, across from the Tidewater Inn, in the heart of old town Easton and take a look!

With the hanging of the work at Troika Gallery yesterday in prep for tomorrow evening's opening reception, it is time to get on to the next work on the work list. And, there are quite a few works that have to be completed this month, not least of which will be a Birds in Art submission later in March. But first, I am turning to a piece for the Modern Marine Masters show at Mystic Seaport Gallery in Mystic, Connecticut opening in April. This piece will finish out at 8" x 11".
